Last week was simply amazing – I got to spend a whole week in Istria as part of the Istria300 event. Work, cycling, adventure – all at once, yet it somehow felt more like a vacation than work.
From Sunday to Wednesday, I was out guiding, for the second time with Istria300. Before and after the event, free guided rides are offered for participants. It’s such a joy to lead people through the stunning landscapes of Istria, give tips, and encourage them to push their own limits. The area is perfect for training: climbs, descents, curves – everything you need to get properly warmed up. I stayed at the Valamar Parantino Sport Hotel, right at the Bike Center Poreč. Everything you could wish for during cycling days is there – incredible landscapes, great infrastructure, excellent hotels, and full bike services from workshop to wash station.
From Wednesday, I moved to the Valamar Marea 5-star Hotel, where the Ladies Squat took place. I’ve been part of it for three years now, and it’s a highlight every time. For those who haven’t heard of it: the Ladies Squat is a dedicated team of women encouraging other women to take part in races. It’s not just about the racing – there are also social rides, where experiences are shared, laughter is abundant, and fun is the main goal. It’s this mix of sport, community, and motivation that makes the Squat so special. You can find more info here.
On Saturday, the big race was on: I rode the 209 km route – fully embracing the Istria300 motto: Ride Your Limits. Normally, I don’t train or ride such long distances, so it was a real test for me. The course is beautiful but definitely no walk in the park: ramps with over 16 percent gradients will make even the most experienced riders sweat. After 7 hours in the saddle, I was completely satisfied – proud of myself, grateful for the experience, and happy to have made it to the finish.
Between guiding and racing, I also got some work done. Luckily, I can work from anywhere with internet, so I spent the afternoons doing a bit of home office – with sea views instead of lake views.
I’m incredibly grateful to be part of this team, to motivate women, share the joy of sport, and at the same time push my own personal limits. The landscapes, the organization, the hotels, and especially the amazing community make this event unforgettable.
For me, Istria is much more than just a cycling destination: it’s challenge, nature, adventure, and community all in one. The Ladies Squat shows that racing isn’t just about performance – it’s about fun, motivation, and friendship. And that’s exactly what made this week so special and unforgettable for me.
