Bike Guide for the Social Rides at Istria300
As the sun rises over the charming coastal town of Poreč, Istria awakens with highly motivated cyclists preparing for one of the region’s most anticipated events – the Istria300. From September 22 to 25, I had the fantastic opportunity to guide participants on the Social Rides through this cycling paradise, experiencing the breathtaking nature and challenging terrain of Istria.
The region around Poreč is increasingly focusing on cycling and is evolving into a paradise for bike enthusiasts. With the new Bike Center Poreč, a central hub has been created for cyclists, featuring modern equipment and expert advice. Here, not only are rental bikes and repairs offered, but also guided tours and tips for the best routes in the area.
Particularly noteworthy is the “Valamar Loves Bikes” campaign, dedicated to cyclist tourism. Valamar hotels and resorts provide special cyclist services such as secure bike storage, wash stations, and tailored menus for athletes. This shows how serious the region is about promoting cycling while offering perfect conditions for an active holiday.
The Event: Istria300
The Istria300 is more than just a bike race – it’s a celebration of cycling and the region. Cyclists from around the world come here to tackle the impressive 300 km route, but the event also offers shorter distances, making it accessible for every level.
As a Bike Guide for the Social Rides
The Social Rides are free for all Istria300 participants and take place in the week leading up to the event to explore the surroundings together. My role as a bike guide went beyond merely leading the group – it was about providing participants with an unforgettable experience. Each ride was an opportunity to connect with other cycling enthusiasts and share insights into the local landscape, all in a relaxed and motivating atmosphere.
Dream Routes for Cyclists
The routes we covered during the Social Rides were a colorful mix of coastal views, quiet country roads, and small historical towns. The Bike Center Poreč, just a stone’s throw from the city center, was the perfect starting point for our tours. To wrap up the tours, a well-deserved espresso awaited us at the picturesque harbor of Poreč. With a view of the sea and the gentle waves rolling onto the shore, the tour concludes perfectly. This moment at the harbor provides the ideal setting to reflect on the impressions of the tour and simply enjoy the sun.
Sense of Community
What makes the Istria300 so special is the strong sense of community. Whether you are an experienced cyclist or simply want to test your endurance – Ride your Limits – the event brings everyone together. The Social Rides were a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas, share tips, and motivate each other. As a guide, I am delighted to be part of this vibrant community and provide cyclists with a safe and enjoyable experience.
From mid-week, I was once again part of the Ladies Team at Istria300 – and the excitement to see everyone again was huge! There’s just something special about starting alongside so many inspiring women. The joy of reunion, the shared laughter, and the motivation each person brings create an incomparable atmosphere. It’s particularly wonderful to meet old friends and forge new friendships – that’s what the spirit of the event means to me. The Istria300 is not just about athletic performance, but also about camaraderie and the joy of riding together. The Ladies Squad especially embodies empowerment and mutual support, which makes this event so valuable to me.
After narrowly missing third place on the short route in 2023 by a few seconds, I wanted to try again this year to make it to the podium! The plan worked, and I crossed the finish line, behind the fast Valerie Rupitsch as the second-fastest woman! Standing on the podium is always something special, and I’m very happy about it! I’d also like to thank my partner, who was by my side. It feels wonderful to share these experiences with him. Together, we enjoyed the atmosphere, supported each other, and shared moments before the start.
